Light, Height, and Tranquility: A 45 m² Apartment in Truskavets Transformed into a Complete Living Space
This project is located in the town of Truskavets, Lviv region. A one-bedroom unit in an apart-hotel, measuring 45 square meters, was meticulously designed with a clear objective — to create a living space where guests could stay comfortably for a few days or several weeks without compromising on everyday conveniences. The apartment incorporates all essential functional areas: a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy living space, a sleeping area, and a thoughtfully designed bathroom.
The defining architectural features of the space are its soaring ceilings, exceeding 3.5 meters in height, and four arched windows that fill the interior with abundant natural light throughout the day. This spatial quality dictated the core concept of the design — minimal intervention. No unnecessary partitions were introduced, preserving the openness of the space and allowing air and light to become the primary elements of the interior narrative.
For subtle zoning of the entrance area, a wardrobe with an overhead transom was designed. This solution keeps the corridor visually open and sunlit, while providing practical storage. The wardrobe is crafted from dark cherry veneer, its rounded edges and stainless steel handles adding a refined tactile dimension. The entrance flooring is accentuated with tiles from the Italian brand 41zero42, introducing a graphic statement right from the threshold.
The bathroom door became another focal design element — finished in the same color as the wall tiles, extended to ceiling height, and framed with classic mouldings to emphasize the verticality of the space. The bathroom itself is conceived in a restrained, elegant aesthetic: white square tiles are paired with veneered wood accents and a countertop made of natural granite, evoking a sense of understated luxury.
The main living area seamlessly merges the kitchen-studio, dining area, and lounge. The kitchen worktop is crafted from granite, while the upper cabinetry was deliberately omitted to maintain a sense of visual lightness. A freestanding extractor hood and a decorative wooden shelf for spices and kitchen essentials become subtle focal points. The dining table comfortably seats four, and the living zone is anchored by a large, plush sofa in a rich shade of deep blue, complemented by a side floor lamp that creates a soft evening glow.
Textile elements were approached with particular attention. The window cornices are made of stainless steel, capable of supporting heavy, full-height linen curtains that echo the architectural rhythm of the arches. Additionally, a suspended rail delicately separates the bedroom from the living area with a sheer voile curtain, preserving the fluidity and transparency of the open space.
The bedroom, though compact, offers an inviting and intimate atmosphere. Its visual centerpiece is a bespoke artwork by Ukrainian artist Veronika Prykhodko, commissioned specifically for this project. The painting’s color palette resonates with the textures and materials throughout the interior — from the warmth of the veneer to the tactile fabrics and stone, creating a harmonious, emotional depth.
